Why we built the tool
Responsive web design has long been standard – but testing it is still cumbersome. Especially on the go, on smaller devices or without access to the desktop browser, it quickly becomes difficult to realistically check layouts. Yes, there are dev tools and emulators – but these are usually only available on laptops and are not mobile-friendly. We lacked a simple solution for quick checks or spontaneous checks.
ScaleView was created precisely because of this need. We wanted a tool that would allow us to test websites in different sizes and layouts – directly in the browser, without special software and also on a smartphone. Especially when you’re working on the go, just before a customer meeting or want to quickly verify something, this is worth its weight in gold.
Particularly practical: ScaleView allows you to realistically simulate desktop layouts on small screens. This allows you to see on your smartphone how your website behaves at a width of 1400 pixels – including all desktop breakpoints.
Why the tool is important and practical
Today, websites are used on a wide range of devices – from small smartphones to huge monitors. Anyone who builds websites has to test how layouts behave in different resolutions. However, this is often tedious in practice: you either need several devices, emulated views or time at your desk. What is missing is a simple, flexible way to check responsive layouts on the move.
ScaleView closes this gap. It loads any website in an interactive preview and allows you to switch between a responsive mode and a user-defined width (“Custom”). For example, you can test a 1400px wide layout on your smartphone – scaled down, but fully visible and with a real desktop layout. Perfect for testing breakpoints, font sizes or grid systems.
This feature makes ScaleView particularly helpful for developers, designers, project managers or anyone who wants to control layouts efficiently – no matter where they are.
How the tool works
ScaleView works very simply: You enter a URL – for example your local development environment, a staging link or an already published website. The page is then loaded in a scalable frame. The default mode is Responsive, in which the preview adapts flexibly to the viewport ratio of your device.
You can switch to Custom mode with one click. There you enter a target width, such as 1400px – and the page will be displayed in exactly this width, regardless of the actual device screen. Clever scaling allows you to see the entire page as it would behave on a large monitor. Ideal for simulating desktop versions on mobile devices.
The tool deliberately dispenses with an overloaded interface or technical hurdles – it is designed to be fast, uncomplicated and suitable for everyday use. Whether for a layout check in between or a last-minute check before the go-live: ScaleView is a practical helper for responsive work – anytime and anywhere.
