WordPress 5.0 is imminent

Last Wednesday, another WordPress Meetup took place in Zurich. After the focus in April was on the GDPR, this meeting was all about WordPress 5.0 and the new editor codenamed Gutenberg.

The most important details about WordPress 5.0

WordPress 5.0 is a version that has been worked on in the form of a plugin for almost two years. At the heart of this update is a new editor, which we have already presented here on the blog. A lot has happened since then and the release is imminent.

For this reason, in addition to a guest lecture on SEO, Gutenberg was the focus of what was probably the last WordPress Zurich Meetup of the year.

After a short demonstration of the current developer version of WordPress 5.0, the most burning questions of the 50 or so participants were answered.

The following information is particularly important for us and our customers:

When will WordPress 5.0 be released?

WordPress 5.0 is due to be released at the end of November 2018. The update is not mandatory and there will probably still be many bug fixes. However, the date shows that the new release is imminent.

Do I have to do anything?

No, at least not immediately. The previous, “classic” editor will officially continue to be supported until the end of 2021. In our experience, however, it is worth switching to the new technology as soon as possible.

Will my existing content continue to work?

Of course. Even if you use the new editor, you can still edit the existing content without it being modified in any way.

Further information about the Meetup and WordPress 5.0 can be found in the summary on the Meetup website.

Incidentally, we have already created this article with the new editor and can highly recommend it. In recent months, we have also implemented several projects with Gutenberg and have been directly involved in its further development. So we can already draw on a wealth of experience.

Do you still have questions or would you like to use the new editor on your website? Then don’t hesitate to contact us now so that we can help.
